Three things decide how long a sofa lasts: the frame, the filling and the fabric. Two sofas can look the same and still be very different in these three points. Here is what wholesale buyers should check before ordering.
The frame
The frame is the main structure of the sofa. In a strong frame, the joints are held with screws and glue, and the load-bearing parts are thick and cut straight. Ask the manufacturer what material is used and how the parts are joined. For models with a motion system, also check the part of the frame where the motion system is fixed.
Foam and spring system
The foam density in the seat decides how fast the sofa loses its shape. Higher density foam keeps its form longer. The spring system decides comfort and bounce. Many makers use softer filling in the back cushions and firmer filling in the seat.
Fabric types
- Bouclé: soft and textured look, popular in modern living rooms.
- Velvet: rich look and deep colour, needs regular care.
- Plain woven fabric: good for daily use and easy to clean.
Questions to ask about fabric
Ask for wear resistance, stain behaviour and colour fastness. For homes with children or pets, tight weave and easy-to-wipe fabrics work well. For commercial places, choose fabric groups made for heavy use.
